An extract from a speech by the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said, may his soul rest in peace, on the occasion of the Graduation of the 4th group of students from the Sultan Qaboos University and 1st group from Medical College, 16 November 1993

"The role education plays in shaping man’s life, and in the development of society, is a vital and undeniable one, but, in order to achieve its objective in shaping a sound personality, and a stable coherent society, it is necessary to maintain useful social traditions and a correct positive behavior derived from a distinct cultural identity. Therefore, we must always retain that which suits our society, environment, and life patterns in our country.

The educational structure in our beloved country is becoming even more firmly established day after day, and we spare no effort to add to it when the need arises, in order to strengthen its foundations".
