Muscat: Young Omanis who wish to conduct research on water saving and conservation techniques in Oman are welcome to apply for the Middle East Desalination Research Center’s Omani Young Water Researchers Award.
Held under the auspices of Diam, the award is designed to recognise young water researchers whose work contributes to advancing key areas of the water sector: water management, wastewater treatment and reuse,
water treatment technologies, non-revenue water and desalination and related environmental research
This is the fourth year of the prestigious award first launched in 2017 to showcase the high level of water research being conducted in Oman by young researchers in the early stage of their careers.
To be eligible to compete, applicants must be Omani nationals, between 20-35 years of age. Submitted applications will undergo two rounds of review. They are first screened for eligibility and compliance against the terms and conditions of the award, before being evaluated and scored by the judging panel. The panel - formed of leading water experts from academic institutions and organizations in the public and private sectors - will call selected finalists to present their findings, and assess them on their ability to communicate and defend their research work.
“The Oman Young Water Researchers Award acts as an important platform to celebrate the outstanding work being done by young researchers here in Oman. Through it we recognise, support and encourage talented young individuals who have the potential to become future leaders of Oman’s water sector.” said Ciaran Ó Cuinn, Center Director at MEDRC.
This year for the first time, MEDRC is inviting applications from both individual researchers and teams of up to two persons. Winners will be announced in both undergraduate and postgraduate categories with a special prize going to the best Wastewater treatment and reuse project. A total of six winners, two from each category, will receive the winning prize of a trip to Dubai Expo 2020.
The award is made possible through the generous sponsorship of Omar Zawawi Establishment L.L.C (OMZEST), the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Oman and Haya Water, with support from Diam, The Research Council (TRC) and the Oman Water Society.
MEDRC invites applications from eligible young Omani nationals via their website at www.medrc.org/apply. Further details can be found at www.medrc.org/research , Closing date for applications is July 1, 2020.
