Muscat: Oman’s Ministry of Higher Education has decided to increase the number of seats allocated to international students who apply for colleges of applied sciences.

The Board of Trustees of Applied Sciences Colleges held its third meeting for the academic year 2018/2019 at the Ministry of Higher Education headed by Dr Sayyida Rawya bin Saud Al Busaidi, Minister of Higher Education and chairperson of the board.

“During the meeting, the academic council decided to increase the number of seats for international students in applied colleges to 100 seats distributed among the six colleges in its various programmes,” the Ministry said.

The board also followed up the recommendations from the previous meetings.

During the meeting, the graduation requirements for the engineering programme in the Faculty of Applied Sciences in Sohar were approved based on the policy of reviewing the approved programmes in the Faculties of Applied Sciences.

The approval was carried out in several stages, the first of which was the preparation of a self-study about the programme. The programme was then developed according to the suggestions, The program and study were then sent to external arbitrators, feedback from the arbitrators was analysed and final reports were prepared for review.

The board discussed the policy of the Board of Trustees and the Academic Council and their proposal of the admission plan for students of the Omani Programme for Cultural and Scientific Cooperation in the Colleges of Applied Sciences for the year 2019-2020.
