Muscat: National Bank of Oman (NBO) has awarded nine Omani students full academic scholarships to study in the United Kingdom.
Since its launch in 2015, NBO’s Scholarship programme has offered a total of 10 out of 15 merit-based scholarships to create opportunities for and empower talented youth from low-income families.
“Education is the foundation of life and the foundation of our future. We are proud to be fulfilling our promise to enrich the minds of Oman’s brightest students as they take steps towards realising their aspirations,” Sayyid Wasfi Jamshid Al Said, Acting Chief Executive Officer of NBO said.
“At NBO we know people are what make things possible. Being able to provide these remarkable students one of the best educations available is a long-term investment not only in our youth, but also in the future of the country.”
Nine students from different governorates will be attending top universities in the United Kingdom. Upon graduation from the four-year programme, the students will also be offered a two-year employment contract with the bank to develop their capabilities and grow their careers as future leaders of Oman’s financial services industry.
Shihab Al Khatri, one of the students, said, “I was delighted to be chosen to take part in the scholarship programme offered by NBO. I have so far loved my experience at The University of Liverpool and have learnt how to adjust to a new environment and to be more flexible in my approach. The scholarships illustrate NBO’s commitment to helping the youth in the community and I am very grateful to them for giving me the opportunity to develop my potential.”
