Muscat: A new ministerial decision has modified the acceptance of undergraduate students for Oman's higher education scholarships both in and out of the Sultanate by informing students of available spots left after the first wave of scholarship acceptances is completed.

The decision No 3/2019, signed by Her Excellency D. Rawiya Al Busaidi, Minister of Higher Education, states, "The previous text in article 30 of the law will be replaced with the following: The Higher Education Acceptance Centre will inform students of leftover scholarships for the second phase when the first phase of acceptance has been completed."

The original article had stated: "A second selection of students will be conducted to fill seats in leftover programmes, both from students who had received scholarships in the first phase and those who did not."

Article 31, which follows the text, adds that students who had already secured scholarships in the first phase of selection can still accept any subsequent offers, and the first offer stands even in the case of rejection of the second offer.

In August 2018, the Ministry of Higher Education offered 21,506 academic seats during its first selection out of a total of 29,800.
