MUSCAT,  About 400 young men and women gathered at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre with discussion sessions ranging from innovation to leadership on Monday.

The aim of the 2040 Oman Youth Platform was to engage young people in building the future of Oman by creating innovative ideas to achieve aspirations using the open innovation methodology. “Participants in the programme are expected to be empowered with skills and knowledge to take ownership of achieving Oman’s 2040 vision,” said Mohamed al Farsi, one of the coordinators of the event.

The number of participants in the age group between 19 and 29 years included 350 Omanis and 50 Arab youth residing in the Sultanate. Dr Ali bin Masoud al Sunaidy, Minister of Commerce and Industry, made his presence at every table of the discussion.

The participants were in groups headed by specialists in different economic sectors to find solutions to the challenges they faceThe course consisted of three days, the first two days with three sessions, the third day being limited to an exhibition in which the ideas are presented.

“The first session began with a presentation of the challenges in the areas in which the participants were selected according to their pre-selection during registration,” said Al Farsi.

The second session was followed by participants selecting three main challenges and presenting their reasons using the fish bones model and finding solutions. The youth platform was organised to give the youths a chance to play a role in the future of Oman. It also aimed at helping the youths acquire the necessary future skills to prepare them for the technological leap in all aspects of life.
