MUSCAT: The Ministry of Higher Education has stipulated a term of three years for top positions in the private higher educational institutions in the Sultanate. These positions include vice-chairman, dean and their deputies, and assistants. According to the ministerial decision No 48/2018, their terms can be extended only once.
Laila bint Khamis al Shaqsiyah, Director of Educational Services Department at the Directorate-General of Private Universities and Colleges, said the decision was part of the ministry’s endeavour to regulate appointment procedures in private higher educational institutions.
As per the decision, candidates for these positions should not be from among owners of the educational institutions or their relatives.
Candidates’ academic qualifications should be approved by the Ministry of Higher Education.
Honorary titles should not be recognised as scientific degrees for the purpose of promotion and are not valid for official use.
The cultural diversity of candidates should be taken into consideration and the rate of candidates from a single nationality should not exceed 25 per cent, except for the nationals.
