Muscat, The Council of Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) held its second meeting for the academic year 2018/2019 today under the chair of Dr. Rawya bint Saud al- Busaidiya, Minister of Higher Education and Chairperson of the University Council.

The Council reviewed the final report of the three-year "Young Explorer" summer program from the summer of 2015 until the summer of 2017. It is one of the unique summer programs of Oman University project and was implemented in cooperation with SQU.

The Council adopted the proposal to amend the appointment list for Omanis with academic posts at SQU and approved the introduction of the Master of Arts program at the College of Education in the fields of Fine Arts and Arts Teaching.

On the other hand, the Council adopted the proposal to change the name of the "Physical Education" section to "Physical Education and Sport Sciences" to suit the current disciplines offered by the department and to meet the needs of the community of specialists in non-teaching areas, such as sports activities, recreation, sports training, physical preparation, and therapeutic exercises.

The Council also adopted a proposal to change the name of the "Pre-school Child" section to the "Early Education" section, in line with the Department's plan to introduce new specializations in early / primary education in 1st cycle of basic education, and in line with its future objectives and vision based on the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
