Muscat: The official launch of Sultan Qaboos University’s (SQU) mobile app, developed by the Public Relations and Information, was held yesterday at SQU Cultural Centre foyer under the patronage of Dr. Ali bin Saud Al Bimani, SQU Vice Chancellor.
The application in its first phase is divided to include SQU news portal Anwaar, events, ‘Mazaya’ special services package to employees, information about SQU, announcements, directions and academic schedule. The news portal (Anwaar) section carries the news and media contents that are published in the media portal issued by of the Public Relations and Information Department. This section includes the following characteristics. In the Events section, all events in the University are listed by date, time and venue.
This section features the following characteristics: linking the event’s location to the mapping software; setting alerts and “Save to Favorites” feature; and, alerting users as soon as they arrive at a particular location.
For instance, all those who are in the Cultural Centre will be notified about any event scheduled at that time or for the day in the Grand Hall or the Cultural Centre premises.
The ‘Mazaya’ section provides a package of special offers to the employees of the University through different fields.
Information about the University section includes information about the university and the ways of communication with its units, and forms of communication can be created which will be linked to the e- mail of each unit.
The Announcements section features job vacancies notifications, tender notices, public announcements, other notices and indicative announcements.
All the buildings and facilities of the university will be featured in the ‘Directions’ section so that any user can enter the destination he/she wants to reach. The academic schedule section features the general academic schedule of the University.
The app will provide links to the University’s general services.
