MUSCAT - Ordering a gas cylinder or getting help after a car breaks down on a highway is a tap away through a mobile app which is being launched on Wednesday.

The Talab application has been developed by ten students of Ibra College of Technology.

Speaking to Muscat Daily , Salim Amer al Harthi, the team leader of Wamda company, said, “We started work on this project in January. “We divided work among us in areas such as marketing, human resources and finance.”

On how the application works, he said, “Users can download the Talab application via App Store from today. After downloading, the user has to choose an item from the different categories provided such as gas cylinder, water tanker, yellow tanker [sewage collection truck], car breakdown, etc.”

Speaking of the challenges, he said, “We faced difficulty during the designing stage. That was the only challenge we had. “People are usually busy with their lives. Our aim is to save time and offer several services on one platform.”

Talking about promoting the app, Harthi said, “We have participated in several exhibitions to promote the app such as the Hand in Hand initiative which was recently held at Shangri La Barr al Jissah Resort & Spa and another one at Oman Avenues Mall. The exhibition was attended by the Minister of Commerce and Industry H E Dr Ali bin Masoud bin Ali al Sunaidy, who was impressed by the idea.

“We are using social media channels like Instagram and Twitter to promote our company Wamda.”

About future, he said that the team wants to include more utility services in future. “The application can be accessed from October 10 via the Apple Store. We will take customer feedback and keep updating our services.”
