The 4th conference of the Omani Society for Human Resources Management (OSHRM), held under the theme "Tomorrow is Now … Are You Ready? started today at the Convention and Exhibition Center.
The seven workshops were held in parallel in seven separate halls about 5 themes, were presented by representatives of human resources in various institutions from inside and outside the Sultanate. Among the most important topics were the 4th Industrial Revolution, Future Skills, Financial and Business Influences, and HR Leaders. The seven workshops were repeated at three intervals so that all participants can benefit from them.
More than 400 participants have been registered in workshops from different governmental and private institutions in the Sultanate.
Speaking at the conference, which will be held until Thursday, 41 speakers, including Salim a-Ismaili, Chairman of the Public Authority for Investment Promotion and Export Development (Ithraa), Sayyida Dr. Mona bint Mahmoud al- Said, Sultan Qaboos University Assistant Vice- Chancellor for International Cooperation, Raquel Sharouf from Australia and Said al- Shanfari, CEO of the Oman Convention and Exhibition Center, and a number of speakers from outside the Sultanate.
Dr. Ghalib bin Saif al- Hosani, OSHRM Chairman said: "Today we offer different workshops, including technology. For example, SAP will address technical systems in human skills development. Microsoft will present a workshop on technology and its impact on human resources. Another speaker from Microsoft will talk about networking and human resource development in line with the latest technology updates, and other themes that focus on human resources concepts. "
On the measurement of the utilization of previous conferences and the expectations of benefiting from the current conference, Dr. Ghalib said: "The previous conference was talking about the transformation of human resources, and there were subjects quite different from the topics of the current conference. It was possible to measure the success represented by how much the participants benefit.
The current conference speaks about preparing for the future and the message (Tomorrow is Now Are You Ready? Are companies and government institutions ready for the future, whose features could be seen now, including modern jobs will be generated and linked to artificial intelligence, database and Internet of Things. What readiness is required to utilise these accurate and HR boosting technologies.
So we put participants today in the picture and show them the future and say that these are the techniques of the future and so are the staff of the future must be prepared and equipped with skills and specialization from now."
He added "In addition, other jobs will be canceled and replaced by an electronic system, and consideration must be given to how to deal with that technology. "
Dr. Asa'ad al- Hadhrami, OSHRM Member of the Board of Directors said: "The conference will focus on the future of human resources and the latest technologies affecting this sector. The individual cannot be separated from the past but must be prepared for the future with challenges and changes. "
He added "If an individual is already prepared for any changes that affect various sectors, he will avoid and overcome many of the challenges, especially since there are emerging technologies that will cancel many traditional jobs and practices. This, of course, will affect if there is no preparation and new jobs, in line with these technologies. "
