Muscat: Dr. Madiha bint Ahmed Al Shibaniyah, Minister of Education received in her office on Sunday Dr. Chung Utak, Director of the Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for Understanding (APCEIU) at the UNESCO.
The meeting reviewed aspects of the joint cooperation between the ministry and the APCEIU in promoting the concept of global citizenship and achieving the seventh objective of UNESCO, which aims at enhancing global citizenship and sustainable development.
The meeting also reviewed challenges facing citizenship in light of technological developments. On his turn, the guest explained that the Sultanate is the first Arab country to cooperate with the Centre in promoting values of global citizenship, expressing his admiration on the role played by the Ministry of Education in terms of promoting the concept of citizenship, introducing principles of citizenship in the curricula in addition to a special department concerns with citizenship, which reflects keenness of the ministry in this regard.
The meeting was attended by Mohammed bin Salim Al Ya’qoobi, Secretary of Oman National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, Nadhira bint Ahmed Al Harthy, Director of Citizenship Department and Yasriah Al Harthy, Assistant Director of Public
Relations and Media Department at the Oman National Commission for Education, Culture and Science.
