MUSCAT: The Sultanate, represented by The Research Council (TRC) and the National Competitiveness Office, participated at the 2018 GFCC Annual Meeting and Global Innovation Summit, held from September 17 to 20 in Argentina.
Among the keynote speakers at the summit was Dr Saif bin Abdullah al Haddabi, Assistant Secretary-General for Research and Scientific Programmes at TRC, who participated with a paper on the geography of innovation and the impact of the surrounding environment on the speed of innovation growth.
In his paper, he shed light on the role that the Sultanate’s geography had on the development of aflaj system, mining industry, as well as ship making and navigation sciences in Oman.
Dr Saif al Haddabi also proposed the development of an electronic platform for sharing information on the experiences of the different countries with regard to the development of their innovation competitiveness levels.
Dr Sharifa al Harthiya, Director of the National Innovation Strategy at TRC, participated at the discussions of the GFCC Annual Meeting and presented the Sultanate’s economic, social and geographical constituents and the role of the national innovation ecology in enhancing competitiveness.
