Muscat: The Oman Medical Specialty Board (OMSB) organised an orientation day for 115 new physicians enrolled in the General Foundation Programme, who successfully completed the residency programme, in various disciplines of medicine.

The General Foundation Programme aims at graduating general physician in a number of different medical fields.

The training period in the programme is 24 months, divided into 8 training periods, during which the trainee doctor is prepared to deal with the various conditions under the supervision of specialists and consultants accredited by OMSB. The programme is characterised by a training curriculum in line with the physicians’ preferences to work in the medical field, during which physicians will join the training workshops within the training and rehabilitation activities.

After completion of the 24-month period, the physicians will receive a certificate of “completion of training in the foundation programme, which is equivalent to work experience, within the framework of providing the institutions of the public health sector with qualified national competencies.

The physicians of the general foundation programme started yesterday their training in various hospitals and health centres accredited to OMSB as training centres in various governorates of the Sultanate.
