The Education Council on Monday held its 5th meeting of the year at the Diwan of Royal Court premises under the chairmanship of His Excellency Sayyid Khalid bin Hilal al Busaidi, Minister of the Diwan of Royal Court, Chairman of the Education Council.
In jubilation of the blessed days enjoyed by the Sultanate that coincide with 45th Glorious National Day celebrations, His Excellency Sayyid Khalid bin Hilal al Busaidi, expressed on his behalf and on behalf of the council sincere congratulations and greetings to His Majesty on this happy occasion and prayed to Allah almighty to return the occasion on His Majesty several years with health and wellness and on the Omani people with further progress and prosperity.
The meeting discussed topics on its agenda reviewing the memos prepared by the Secretariat of the Council and the competent authorities upon that.

In the framework of constructive cooperation between the Council of Oman and the Education Council, the meeting discussed the two proposals received from the State Council, the first on the education for people with disabilities / Hybrid Learning. The second proposal is on the establishment of a national center for open educational resources, valuing the contributions and efforts of the State Council, in this regard.
The Education Council referred the first topic to the Ministry of Education, which is working on a national plan for the education of the persons with disabilities, in coordination with the Ministry of Social Development. As for the second proposal, the Council discussed at length the study prepared in this regard, and gave instructions to establish an electronic platform for open educational resources under the supervision of Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) and in cooperation with other institutions of higher education.
The Council was also briefed on the mechanisms used by the Ministry of Higher Education on the equivalency and recognition of academic qualifications, procedures applied at the local and global levels in this regard. The council gave instructions to the importance of verification of educational institutions that grant academic qualifications, and the intensification of media awareness for students wishing to continue their studies outside the Sultanate.
In embodiment of the vital role played by private higher education institutions, the meeting was briefed in a presentation prepared by the private higher education institutions about the challenges faced by these institutions. The meeting also discussed the memo prepared in this regard by the competent authorities.
Given the importance of the contribution of these institutions in the development of higher education in particular, and the process of education in general, the Council gave the green light for the preparation of a study on the assessment of the state of the private higher education sector and the challenges it faces and the appropriate solutions for those challenges.
The council was briefed on a number of other reports and memoranda submitted to it from various parties, and took appropriate action in their regard.
