The Education Council held a meeting today chaired by Her Excellency the Minister of Higher Education, the Vice Chairperson of the Council. The meeting was attended by their Excellency the Ministers and other members of the Council at the premises of the Ministry of Higher Education. The Council reviewed the steps taken by the Secretariat General of the Council following the National Symposium “ Education in the Sultanate of Oman: the road to the future” which was organized as from October 14th to 16th 2014 and aimed at informing all concerned people working at different sectors of education of the projects and initiatives which are implemented under the supervision of the Council as part of its efforts to improve and develop the educational system of the Sultanate of Oman. Representatives of educational institutions from public and private universities, colleges and institutes as well as several categories of the society, the ministries, authorities, government councils, private companies and establishments participated in the Symposium.

The Council discussed the report of the Ministry of Education on the needs of the Ministry of educational cadres for years to come. The Council agreed to increase numbers of students to be admitted to different educational specializations at Sultan Qaboos University and to provide scholarship opportunities in educational scientific programs for holders of the General Education diploma in foreign countries through the scholarship program of the Ministry of Higher Education. The Council also approved that the Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Higher Education, shall join the Program on Institutional Management in Higher Education (IMHE) of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

The Council also reviewed the proposed plan of distribution of foreign scholarships for 2015/2016 academic year and issued appropriate decisions in this regard.

The Council discussed several reports and memorandums submitted by different concerned parties and took appropriate decisions.
